About Silver Spring

Silver Spring has its very own spring located in Kent’s North Downs which dates back to the Roman times. The spring emerged from the base of the chalk hills and 4 miles west there was a roman encampment where iron was formed naturally and would be used to make iron wear and weaponry.  There are two separate hills, the nearest known as Caesar’s Camp and the other to the east is “Sugarloaf Hill” named for its shape.

The spring which was once known as the “Cherry Garden” spring due to the abundance of cherry trees that grew nearby has been a natural source to make refreshingly pure soft drinks for over 140 years. It takes years for the water to trickle its way from the surface down to our spring well. As it passes through the chalk hills of the North Downs, the water becomes rich in calcium and perfectly clear spring water.

History

During the late 19th century there was a need for good clean tasty non-intoxicating refreshments, up until then only the wealthy were able to afford the luxury of spar water with flavouring. It was in 1860 when there was a massive explosion of pop drinks and emerging flavours Ginger Beer and Lemonade were launched. It was because of the upsurge of fizzy pop that a group of business men organised and set up their own mineral company; The Silver Spring Mineral Water Company was born in 1870.
